My name is Don Bahr. My wife PJ and I have lived here in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota since 1979. I retired four years ago from over thirty-eight years in Public Service. PJ works at the 911 Emergency Services Center in Rapid City on a part-time basis.

This has left us spare time to enjoy our hobbies of kayaking in the Big Horns, hiking, and riding our Harleys. Together we have thirteen grandchildren and are elated that our fourteenth is due right before the New Year. PJ often says that she would rather spend time with her grandchildren than do anything else. She spends most of her summer days swimming with the grandkids, playing on the swings, or tending their squash plants in the yard. We also have two dogs; a border collie mix named Bradley and a Bernese Mountain dog named Buster. Our cat, Ted Bundy, prowls the neighborhood like a lion and can often be found defending his food dish on the back porch from noisy, but brave birds.

Gold prospecting was my hobby for many years, but Rock Hounding and hunting Fairburns has become my recent adventure. I truly enjoy the beauty of these stones more than anything and on occasion will cut some of them and turn them into one of a kind jewelry. I spend as much time as possible hunting for agates at Fairburn when I haven't been enlisted by PJ to remodel the kitchen, the bathroom, or paint a room in our house. I walk or ride my four-wheeler many miles through Fairburn country, usually with Bradley riding along and keeping me company. I recently built an addition onto our garage for a rock shop and with that I have begun cutting the agates and crafting jewelry. Anyone who sees my work, from friends to professional jewelers, are very impressed. I have found myself busier as a retired man than when I was working.

Together, PJ and I spend our semi-retirement quite actively and we are incredibly happy with the life we have built together.
